Williamsburg, Virginia - Day 6

Today we checked out the outlets around the corner. Even though we are on the outer skirts of Hurricane Florence, and haven’t seen much wind or rain, many businesses were boarded up and had closed for business for the next three days.

After the outlets, we visited a few tourist stores. Alecia’s favorite was The Christmas Mouse. It smelled like Christmas and had on display many decorated trees. Alecia took a lot of pictures stocking up on “ideas”.
The whole family went to Yankee Candle together. Huge store laid out like a mini-mall. The center court has a huge fountain and a clock tower that opens every 30 minutes and features animatronics that put on a play for the children. There are small off-shoot areas from the center court, and one specialized in Christmas decor. The ceiling looked like the night sky and twinkled with lights. Snowlike flakes fell lightly fell from above every 15 minutes. Pretty cool. Santa visits year-round, and today he wore his relaxed summer outfit. He searched his giant book of names for Athena and Niko, and sure enough, they’ve been really good and are on the “nice” list!
After shopping, Uncle Jim and Aunt Grace took us to Kings Arms Tavern, on E. Duke of Gloucester, in old Williamsburg. Kings Arms Tavern is a period themed restaurant that serves dishes prepared in colonial times. Due to the storm, only six of the thirty sold out reservations had shown up. As we arrived at the door we were met with, “Are you the Dixon party?” Another couple was just finishing up as we entered, giving us the place to ourselves. It was a great evening, spent in a beautiful place, together.
Alecia and I split the Mrs. Purdue’s Salet and Mrs. Vobe’s Dinner followed by Pecan Pie and Peppermint-Stick Ice Cream. Aunt Grace had the Soup Befitting Gentry, Chop of Shoat, and Chocolate Ice Cream. Uncle Jim chose the Hunter’s Game Pye. Excellently prepared, delicious, and a timeless experience that was extra special.
Back at the condo, the others had gone to a Greek restaurant for dinner and Nathalie (who is Greek) raved about how good it was. The daughter of a Greek chef, that doesn’t happen often. After sampling a bite of Baklava, we’re excited to try it out tomorrow.
Another great day and night, Williamsburg has so much to offer.
