Washington DC (Manassas/Smithsonian Air & Space Museum/Clifton) Day 3

Our day started with a drive into downtown Warrenton to check out Earth, Glaze, and Fire thinking we might like to paint some pottery or throw some clay. Time was a factor in this project, so we had to pass. On to the Manassas Visitors Center where we learned more about the historic Civil War Battle of Bull Run. So much history and heart-wrenching how many lives were lost. Lunch at Sweetwater Tavern that started with bread and butter (The Aussie rolls were delicious), then the World”s Best Fajitas (well, not so much, in our opinion) and a Warm Goat Cheese Salad that the girls absolutely adored. Next stop, the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, a Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum. Amazing! The Space wing that houses the Space Shuttle Discovery, was my favorite. Such an amazing building that houses so many historical flying machines. After the museum, we took a drive to a spooky urban legend site called the Bunny Man Bridge (Google it to learn more). Then we drove to the town of Clifton to find a Trip Advisor recommended farm for some homemade ice cream, and sadly, they are only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We were salivating for the chocolate ice cream and a little disappointed to not have it. At the recommendation of Alecia’s cousin’s wife, Nathalie, we ate at a quaint, Italian restaurant, Trattoria Villagio, for salads and chocolate mousse with a smore topping and caramel drizzle. Yummmm. The drive back home took us into the sunset, and we got to spend the rest of the evening with Jim & Grace for more conversation.
