Day 4: French Holiday (Marseille —> Paris)

Not much to report today, as our trip back to Paris went much smoother than our trip to Marseille. We got up early to clean up, finish packing and check out of the apartment. We drove along the coastline, making our car rental return at St. Charles station and to the train platform with an hour to spare. There was a memorial of flowers, outside the entrance to the station, for the two young girls, cousins, killed Sunday. The mood was somber and the police and military are keeping a vigilant watch. A little disconcerting as they walk in groups carrying high tech assault rifles with their arms folded and the barrel resting in the nook of their arms. You feel safe and not safe at the same time.
The bullet train ride on Ouigo (pronounced wee-go) was quick. The French countryside was beautiful and filled with small towns here and there. The cattle we saw were mostly Charolais, white in color, and beautiful against the green foliage. We arrived at the Disneyland train station and caught the next RER (mass transit train) to the stop closest to our Airbnb. Alecia and Brooklynn are still trying to figure out how the Navigo passes work to enter and exit the transit system. Russ looked pretty hilarious trying to walk through with two large suitcases. These are the moments you wish you had yourself on video because you know it was a true ‘I Love Lucy’ moment. The walk to our apartment was about five minutes, not bad considering how much we will be using RER.
The studio apartment is small but functional. It even has a punching bag and disco lights. We’re not really sure about that combo, but assume they’re not used at the same time. Marne River (filled with gorgeous swans) is just a few steps away.
The only other comical event occurred when Brooklynn popped the circuit breaker with one of our universal adapters, it turned out to be a fortunate event as the apartment seemed to be lacking eating utensils and our search for the breaker led us to the secret drawer containing everything we needed. Score! France uses military time and it’s currently 22:18. We are off to bed so we can arrive at Disneyland Paris bright and early for our next adventure. Bonne nuit.
