Watched the news this morning and heard about the terrible fire in CA. They cover more US news here than one might think. The Airbnb we got in Cairns was absolutely lovely. The hosts were helpful in letting us know where to go and what to see. Spent half a day exploring Cairns before catching our flight back to Sydney in the afternoon. Asked a gal at the Visitors Center where the weekend markets were located only to find out this weekend they were in Port Douglas. So sad we missed them; wished we would have stayed one more day. Port Douglas is pure magic. There was a fruit and veg market we could go to but were told the supply would be low as it was the last day. Drove to Kuranda Village in the rainforest. The road was the longest, windiest and narrowest of any of the other roads we've traveled so far. Kuranda is a village filled with all kinds of flea market shops. The visitors center featured a life-size model of a Cassowary, and we realized there was no way the tiny birds we'd taken a few shots of were them. No wonder the street signs in Queensland warn drivers to proceed driving cautiously when they might be about. Reminds me of the deer crossing signs back in the states. Nature footpaths we explored were similar to the many we've seen before. Barron Falls was a beautiful sight to see. Water is low so not quite as spectacular as it will become when the rains hit. Back to Cairns, we couldn't pass up an opportunity to have another round of rice paper rolls from Pho Street. We ordered chicken and avo along with pork and prawn this time. So delicious. Looking forward to trying to recreate them at home. Returned the car hire which is so much easier than checking them out. Caught our flight back to Sydney and made it to our wonderful Airbnb in Mosman. Arriving in Sydney at 8:30 pm made for open roads, driving to our place was so much less stressful, plus we had a better understanding of the road system this go around. Finished off an episode of Timeless we were watching on the plane to pass time, then lights out!
